Atelier Girot was asked for this project by the commune of Sierre Chippis to define visions of the role of infrastructure & landscape within the image of the cities along the rivers edge. The team consists of engineers as well as city officials. The Rhone is to be corrected for the 3rd time to optimize the existing large-scaled infrastructure. Over the years, two corrections have shown their failures to protect from flooding. In 2006, a final plan was voted with the main objectives of sustainable urban development in the Rhone valley, ensure security, and augment the touristic & urban value of the river edge. The project focuses on several urban and park water edge conditions, while working topographically with the engineering constraints of the correction in order to combine demands for infrastructure with biophysical systems and landscape-qualities. Atelier Girot was commissioned to develop methods of modeling and representation in order to visualize and provide communication tools for public approval.
