Stadteingang Parksiedlung, Ostfildern

with SAM Architekten und Partner AG, 2012

The landscape features clearly contribute to improve the value of the urban design. Due to the morphology of the terrain, getting to this extension at the border of the city along the Danziger Strasse reveals the possibility to look into the distance, over the country. The street becomes the first landscape element designed, to strengthen the value of the landscape into the project. A mixture of freestanding trees is planted and a main pedestrian route is designed, along which seating spaces are located. This path brings to the Belvedere, a terrace surrounding the dwelling blocks from where one could admire the panorama. Here the regional features are brought into the local ones. Main landscape elements are the artificial sound barrier integrated into the slope of the hill, which should solve the noise problem for the inhabitants along with a water basin for collecting rain and drainage water. On the entire plot length, a new edge is planted. The existing extensive natural garden is largely preserved and enhanced with numerous walking opportunities and a playground is created. All paths in the garden are accessible with a maximum slope of 6 %.
